Tip: Vitamin
A protects the
skin and prevents acne.
It also helps reduce
sebum production.
There are many OTC medications (creams, lotions
and gels) available. These medications don’t need a prescription
and are found in every pharmacy or supermarket. Some of these
are:
Benzoyl Peroxide:
Destroys P.acnes, and may also reduce oil production
Resorcinol: Can help break down black heads and white heads by lowering
the skin oil.
Sulfacetamid / sulfur – containing products:
Help by drawing out skin oil. They also stop or slowdown the
growth of bacteria
Salicylic acid: It is a mild peeling agent and helps breakdown black heads
and white heads. Also helps cut down the shedding of cells
lining in the hair follicles.
Alpha hydroxyl acids: Helps in cleaning the skin by causing the superficial
layer of the skin to peal (exfoliate)
Topical vitamin A derivatives: These are lowering the skin oil but often dry and irritate
the skin. They should be used with lots of moisturizers.
Tip:If you want to control
acne breakouts, you
need to supplement your diet with fish oils
which contain omega-3 and omega-6 oils.
